Why this page is short: dedicated freshman/sophomore pipelines are a niche HR product outside software engineering. Big-tech versions for Product Management, Data Science, Marketing, Sales, and Operations are rare; the Big Four/major consulting and industrial firms run more of them (Deloitte Discovery, PwC Start) but several restrict eligibility to specific demographic groups, noted per row. I checked each directly against official company sources rather than repeat aggregator claims that don't hold up (see the Not-Eligible notes below).

Industrial Engineering No IE-specific freshman/sophomore program found anywhere. GM and Michelin post 2027 IE internships with no underclassman track. Closest fit: Caterpillar's general Engineering internship (Engineering & Tech board) explicitly accepts 24+ credit-hour (sophomore) students and is open to IE majors, but it isn't an IE-labeled track.
Explicitly Not Freshman/Sophomore-Eligible
Google APM (Associate Product Manager) — official Google eligibility is rising seniors and equivalent grad students only. Freshmen and sophomores cannot apply, despite this being the most well-known "big tech PM internship."
Google BOLD (the full internship, not Immersion) — also rising-senior only. Only the 3-week BOLD Immersion track (listed above) is open to sophomores.
Amazon Propel — still no dedicated official amazon.jobs posting found confirming eligibility or a deadline; stays unconfirmed. LinkedIn "First Play" is now confirmed real and freshman/sophomore-eligible on LinkedIn's own careers page, but it's explicitly titled "Underclassman Engineering Internship" — software engineering only, so it's out of scope for this page (see the Engineering & Tech board instead). Salesforce "Tech Launchpad" is likewise now confirmed on Salesforce's own careers page — but it's a software-engineering bootcamp for "25 rising college juniors," not a marketing/sales program and not freshman/sophomore-eligible. All three stay excluded from this page, now for confirmed rather than unconfirmed reasons.
Bottom line: if you're set on a business-side role as a freshman/sophomore, Google BOLD Immersion is the only verified path into Marketing or Sales specifically. Duolingo Thrive and MongoDB's Next in Tech Summit cover Product Management and Data Science. Amazon's Operations Externship is the only verified Operations option, and it's a 3-day job-shadow rather than a real internship. Deloitte Discovery is the strongest open (non-demographic-restricted) audit/tax/consulting option; PwC Start covers the same functions but is restricted to underrepresented/veteran/disability applicants. Industrial Engineering still has no IE-labeled underclassman program at all — Caterpillar's general Engineering internship is the closest fit.
